About Us

/

The goal of this project was to challenge the Greek community, a large community with immense social capital, to go green. Phase I focused on education, Phase II on the development of sustainability plans, and Phase III was a social media campaign to support these changes. Members of sororities and fraternities at Florida State University are mandated to engage in service learning projects, and so this project was designed as an opportunity to meet this mandate.

We partnered with the Office of Campus Sustainability who shared their history of limited partnership with the Greek community. Using this to guide our work, we held two interest sessions, and from this, we began a relationship with Alpha Gamma Delta, Delta Zeta, and Sigma Delta Tau. We decided to expand our reach and began to work with sports clubs on campus.

In addition to the consulting we provided to each group around how to reduce their impact on climate change, we leave behind two resources. At the request of the Office of Campus Sustainability, we created a tri-fold brochure designed specifically for the Greek community that provides an outline of steps towards sustainability. At the request of the Greek community, we designed and printed stickers with our new Garnet Gold and Green logo to be used on reusable water bottles as another tool to help spread the initiative.
