PSA #2: Can organic agriculture solve climate change?
PSA #2: Can organic agriculture solve climate change?
The Hitting Home Movement is working quickly to release our first PSA this week as we are in the midst of shooting our second.
We have just finished editing the first PSA with professor suggestions that included a minimized focus on the party aspect of the narrative. An essay style caption will be posted with this PSA, explaining the science and danger behind hurricanes strengthened by climate change.
Our second PSA is focused on agriculture. We interviewed Turkey Hill Farm, a local organic and sustainable farm here in Tallahassee. The couple discussed their efforts to compost and grow fully organic vegetables and herbs. They provided us with some research that shows how composting organic soil could reverse some effects of climate change by absorbing carbon from the atmosphere into the carbon-based soil. We are doing more research on this topic, and are interviewing Liberty Farms this week -- another sustainable and organic small farm in town.
Our interview was scheduled for Monday, but due to rain we had to reschedule to later this week. We plan on interviewing one more farm and an agriculture expert in higher academia. This is a feature-style piece, and taking up most of our time as it will be the longest piece in our series (running less than 2 minutes).
The third PSA will focus on coral reefs and coral disease spreading globally. This last piece will be animation, charts, and graphics to depict how coral disease can affect Florida’s tourism and other industries. This research is being completed now, and will be used next week to create dialogue that the visuals will follow.
While scheduling has been difficult, we are still making good progress in our research, production, and editing. The next few weeks will be full of editing and boosting our PSAs on social media with the use of ads.
As usual, be sure to follow us on social media to see our final PSAs!
