What have we been up to?
Good question, to start, we fully defined what our project/ campaign was going to be: a social media campaign primarily drawing attention to litter and plastic use on campus by using the hashtag #isthiswhatyourFSUlookslike to garner attention from students and faculty alike. From there, we planned out exactly what each week of the campaign was going to focus on, deciding that the best way to reach as many people as possible is to spread out our posts/discussions to four corners of campus. Each week zeroing in on a different part of campus.
What have we done this week?
This past week we started reaching out to some of our resources, getting to sit down with PHD Candidate Douglas Allen, our question was: “How does culture contribute to littering or picking it up?” This was to gather insight on people’s reactions when they see litter and how society as a whole either enrolls or shames people into picking it up. The focus of course, is to encourage others to pick it up by instilling a sense of belonging to a place and enrolling them into a collective stewardship of these places. This discourse frames a set of values that when someone sees litter or people picking up, they are more likely to pick it up, or are less likely to litter.
Our Recent Engagement
As of Sunday, we officially started our campaign! The first Instagram post was a success, introducing our campaign and getting a little traction even (a whole 16 likes!). The next post will picture a trash pick up we have planned for this Wednesday (3/06) where a fraternity on campus has offered to get involved and help with the clean up efforts around campus. We look forward to seeing how our project evolves, and can’t wait to show you what our FSU looks like!
