Sci-Fi Mocumentary

Group deliverable #3

So far, our group has created five different characters and storylines for our mockumentary, Green Power 2069. We all worked together to decide what type of characters and storyline would best represent Florida in 2069 and added additional storylines for the characters depicted on our Instagram. We narrowed down the main impacts of climate change we want the storylines to focus on and the Environmental Science students gathered accurate research to make sure the storylines line resemble the future projection data. We have begun to build a website to post our mockumentary on and are currently working on the formatting. Our scripts for each character have been written and we are beginning filming next week so that our DMP students have adequate time to edit. Before our social media consultation, we planned on recruiting middle-aged actors for the mockumentary. However, the graduate students advised that the characters in the video needed to be the age of our target audience, so we decided it would be easier to have our group members act for the mockumentary. We have also decided to change the perception viewers have of climate change after the video. At first, we planned on creating an apocalyptic type of mockumentary that significantly highlighted the physical changes to Florida. The graduate students suggested that our target audience should have a positive call to action after watching the video. So, we decided to focus more on the characters portraying a world where people ignored climate change and mitigation for a long time, but a new generation voted in politicians that created policies to lower emissions, clean water, combat eutrophication, etc.. This makes our call to action more clear to the viewers.
